If there’s anything I’ve learned by working with volunteers in local organizations for many years, it’s “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” Volunteers typically want to get involved in an organization because they want to serve the community in some way, shape or form. They want to be part of something greater. It is usually something they are passionate about. They want to feel valued. They want to put their skills to work. Everyone has certain skills that they enjoy and when they offer to put those skills to work for your organization, LET THEM. You may be able to do the job they are offering, but that doesn’t mean only a select few should be doing all the work and executing all the roles the organization has to offer. By doing so, you are limiting the growth of your organization. Your intentions are good but you are inadvertently pushing potential volunteers away. While it’s important to get the job done, it’s even more important for a volunteer organization to be inviting and welcoming to volunteers in the community. If the same people are doing the same things, where will potential new volunteers find their role? Why would current volunteers want to continue serving if they can’t find their role or a place for them in the organization? Encouraging everyone to be part of something great, can make it that much greater. Find a place for everyone to contribute, no matter how big or how small their contribution is. Because everyone’s contribution, can create a big impact and can result in success and gratification for both the organization and the community.
“The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others.”

Have you ever wanted to position your product so that it appeals to a specific consumer but you don’t want to spend a fortune doing it? Do you want personable, one on one service instead of feeling like a number when dealing with a large advertising agency or marketing firm?
